In part two of my conversation with Jason Crystal we are talking about what it takes to deliver quality sound for a Broadway show when you don't know what will happen next, and Jason gives all the best tips and tricks for good sound and recording while you are spending time at home.
Tomorrow I have an awesome episode headed your way, and that is part two of my conversation with Jason Crystal, but today I need take a moment to use the platform and privilege I have to denounce police brutality.
So here’s my statement.
I have an obligation as a white person to use my voice to speak truth and use the tools I have at my disposal for change. Mike and I are both life long New Yorkers, and the pain we see in the streets of this city right now is much like the pain seen all through our nation.
Systemic racism uses silence as a tool to further harm the black men, women, children, and trans people who are already being harmed and killed every day in this country for the color of their skin, with little to no justice. I want you to know we are with you in the fight to see justice is served. After years of deep diving in a show like Hamilton, I have a responsibility to put the lessons we have learned from it to good use. Nothing comes from no one knowing where you stand.
We need to say these things out loud: Black Lives Matter. We need to have these conversations for things to change. Let's take a stand with the stamina god has granted us.
This morning, the first thing Mike said to me was “where are we donating today?” So, if you need more information on what you can do to be of help - including where to donate, petitions to sign, and other resources - there are links below.
Stay safe out there. We are with you in this fight.
In my first recording of quarantine I am talking with Jason Crystal, associate sound designer and sound supervisor for Hamilton. We get an in depth look at what it takes to make Hamilton sing, Jason tells us how the tours manage to be ready for new venues just days after being on stage at the last, and we learn the art of making sure you always hear the conversations on stage you should, and none of the ones you shouldn’t.
Anna-Lee Craig on The Hamilcast
In part three of my conversation with Andy Blankenbuehler, Andy is taking your questions. He digs deep into his favorite moments of the show, reveals more Easter eggs, and Andy reflects on the moments of Hamilton we never saw that were staged--but later cut.

He tells us about all-nighters, the moments it clicked, seeing the numbers and, in a moment I’ve waited years for, a step by step breakdown of Yorktown.
Alex Brightman tears down the walls as we wrap up in part two of our conversation. We dote on David Korins, discuss why it is so important to bring everything you've got to every show you do, and Alex takes questions from the Patreon Peeps.

We both let it go as we take a note from The Cabinet™ that you can always find something new and I LOSE MY MIND OVER SOMETHING I’VE NEVER HEARD ABOUT BEFORE!
